On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Greenlight was proud to sponsor and participate in the Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K in Better Waverly in Northeast Central Baltimore. We sent both a runner and a walker to join more than 300 community members while supporting Marian House and the women and children whose lives are transformed through its programs.
For Greenlight, this event was about more than showing up with our logo on a sponsorship sign. It was an opportunity to meet our neighbors, build relationships in Northeast Central Baltimore, and stand alongside a beloved community anchor and a cause that has made a meaningful difference in the lives of Baltimore families.
What Was the Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K?
The Race to Embrace Independence brought together more than 300 people, including runners, walkers, supporters, volunteers, and community members. Throughout the morning, Greenlight team members had the chance to chat with fellow participants about who we are, what we do, and our commitment to the Baltimore community.
We also handed out Greenlight sunglasses, giving participants a small reminder of our presence and creating plenty of opportunities for conversation.
But for one Greenlight team member, the event was especially personal.
How Did Greenlight Connect With the Northeast Central Baltimore Community?
The event gave Greenlight an opportunity to meet our neighbors and introduce ourselves to more people throughout Northeast Central Baltimore.
For Lo, a Greenlight team member, that connection was especially meaningful. Lo is a neighbor of Marian House’s supportive living community for women and their children. Over time, they’ve gotten to know many of the women who call Marian House home, and, as anyone who knows Lo can tell you, they’ve also gotten to know and love their dog.
During the 5K, one of those neighbors, came over to say hello.
They shared how much it meant to them that Lo wasn’t just there as a neighbor, but was also helping support the organization that had changed their life.
The moment was emotional for both of them.
It’s easy to talk about community in broad terms. Moments like this are a reminder of what community actually looks like: neighbors showing up for one another, organizations creating opportunities for people to build new lives, and local businesses choosing to invest in the places and people around them.
For Greenlight, supporting Marian House isn’t just about sponsoring an event. It’s about supporting the people who make Baltimore’s neighborhoods what they are.

Our sponsorship sign was positioned on the last turn of the race, meaning participants saw the Greenlight logo just as they were making their way toward the finish.
