How Do I Get Started With Greenlight Business Internet?

Getting started with Greenlight business internet takes three steps: check availability at your address, book a free consultation with a Small Business Specialist, and schedule your installation. Greenlight Networks has connected more than 100,000 homes and businesses across New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland since 2011.

Most business owners we talk to have the same handful of questions before they switch providers. Almost all of them come down to one thing: how long will this take, and will it interrupt my business? Below are the five questions our Small Business team hears most often, with direct answers you can act on today.

Check Availability at Your Business Address

How do I become a Greenlight business customer?

You become a Greenlight business customer in three steps: confirm service is available at your address, choose a plan with a Small Business Specialist, then schedule your installation. There are no contracts to sign and no charges until your service is connected and working.

Here is what each step actually involves:

Step 1: Check your address. Enter your business address at order.greenlightnetworks.com. The tool tells you immediately whether your location is serviceable, under construction, or not yet in a Greenlight district.

Step 2: Talk to a specialist. Book a free virtual consultation. There is no obligation to buy. You will cover bandwidth and Wi-Fi needs, optional features like static IPs and VoIP, budget fit, and what happens after you order.

Step 3: Order and schedule. Once you pick a plan, your order goes to our construction and installation teams, and you choose an appointment window that works around your operating hours.

Greenlight’s small business plans are built for teams of one to 20 employees, with four speed tiers running from 500 Mbps to 8 Gig. Every plan includes symmetrical upload and download speeds, no data caps, no contracts, and 24/7/365 support with priority call routing for business customers.

How do I know if Greenlight is available at my business?

Check availability by entering your business address at order.greenlightnetworks.com. The result places your address in one of three categories: serviceable now, under active construction, or not yet in a Greenlight district. Each category has a different next step and a different timeline.

Serviceable now. Fiber already runs to your street. Your order moves straight into installation scheduling. This is the fastest path to getting connected.

Under construction. Greenlight is actively building fiber in your district. You can place an order today and you will be notified by email the moment construction finishes and installation scheduling opens. Aerial construction (on utility poles) generally moves faster than underground boring.

Not yet in a district. Register your address to be notified when service reaches your block. Registrations are one of the signals our expansion team uses when prioritizing new districts, so it is worth submitting even if you are not ready to switch.

Greenlight builds, owns, and operates its own fiber network rather than reselling capacity on someone else’s lines. That is why availability is street by street instead of blanket citywide, and it is also why performance stays consistent once you are connected.

Which regions does Greenlight serve?

Greenlight serves businesses across three states: Rochester, Buffalo, Binghamton, the Capital Region, and the Hudson Valley in New York; Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, the Lehigh Valley, and South Central Pennsylvania; and Baltimore, Maryland. New streets are added continuously, so an address that was not serviceable six months ago may be serviceable today.

How long does it take to get Greenlight business internet installed?

Installation timing depends on whether fiber already reaches your building. If your address is in a serviceable district, expect roughly 4 to 6 weeks from order to activation. The appointment itself is short: installations covering fiber alone typically finish in under 1 hour, and installations that include Total Managed Wi-Fi finish in under 2 hours.

That window of four to six weeks is not your technician sitting in a truck. Here is where the time actually goes:

Weeks 1 through 5: The fiber drop. After your order, our construction team runs a dedicated fiber line from the street to your building. Most of this work happens outside, and you do not need to be on site for it. Utility markings may appear on the property beforehand. That is the standard locate process, which protects existing gas, water, and electric lines.

Once fiber is ready: Your appointment. When your building is ready for fiber, we contact you to pick an installation appointment. Business installations are handled by dedicated business class field technicians rather than general residential crews.

Day of install. A technician connects the fiber to your ONT (the small box that terminates the fiber line inside your building), configures the connection, and verifies speeds before leaving. You will get a text when the technician is on the way. Someone over 18 needs to be on site and able to direct the technician to where you want the equipment placed.

If your address sits in a district still under construction, the timeline extends until that build completes. Your specialist can give you a realistic estimate for your specific street.

What should I have ready before installation day?

Have three things sorted before your appointment: a router capable of handling fiber speeds of 1 Gig and above, a decision on where the ONT should be mounted, and a staff member on site who can let the technician in and answer questions. If you are bringing your own router, note that Greenlight cannot troubleshoot hardware we did not supply. That is why many businesses choose Total Managed Wi-Fi instead and let us design, install, and support the whole wireless environment.

What happens after I request a quote?

After you request a quote, a Small Business Specialist contacts you to schedule a free 15 minute virtual consultation. You will review speed needs, pricing, add ons, and installation timing for your specific address, then receive a written quote. There is no obligation, and you are not charged until service is installed and running.

The consultation covers four things:

  • Bandwidth sizing. How many employees, devices, POS terminals, cameras, and cloud applications you are supporting, and which of the four tiers actually fits. Most small businesses land on Basic (500 Mbps) or Fast (1 Gig). Operations running server hosting, heavy backups, or constant cloud computing typically need Faster (2 Gig) or Fastest (8 Gig).

  • Add ons. Static IPs, VoIP, and Total Managed Wi-Fi, if your operation needs them.

  • Transparent pricing. Your first invoice includes a setup charge billed once, prorated service from your installation date through the end of that month, and your second month paid in advance. Pricing does not spike after 12 months, and there is no promotional rate cliff.

  • Your timeline. A realistic installation estimate for your exact address, not a generic citywide average.

If the quote works, you place your order and move to scheduling. If it does not, nothing happens. There is no contract, no deposit, and no cancellation fee, because you have not committed to anything yet.

Do I need to cancel my current internet provider before switching to Greenlight?

No, and you should not. Keep your existing internet active until your Greenlight connection is installed, tested, and confirmed working. Because Greenlight runs on a separate fiber line rather than your current provider’s coax, both services can run at the same time during the transition, giving you a cutover with no downtime.

This is the single most common mistake we see business owners make: canceling Spectrum or another provider on the assumption that the new service will be live the same week, and ending up with a gap where the POS system, phones, and card processing all go dark.

The safe sequence looks like this:

  1. Place your Greenlight order and get an installation date.

  2. Leave your current service running.

  3. Complete the Greenlight installation and run a real test. Process a transaction, host a video call, push a backup.

  4. Move your devices and network over once you are satisfied.

  5. Then call your old provider to cancel.

Check your current contract before you cancel. Many business ISPs use long term contracts with early termination fees, and knowing your contract end date lets you time the switch to avoid a penalty. Greenlight itself operates month to month. You can upgrade, downgrade, or leave at any time with no termination fee, so you never end up locked in again.

Why do small businesses across NY, PA, and MD choose Greenlight?

Four reasons come up most often in our consultations:

Symmetrical speeds. Cable providers deliver fast downloads and slow uploads. Fiber delivers identical speeds in both directions, which matters the moment you are uploading to cloud storage, hosting video calls, or transmitting large files.

No contracts, no data caps. Month to month terms mean you scale up when you hire and scale down in a slow season, without penalties.

24/7/365 business support. A dedicated business concierge team with priority call routing, available after hours, weekends, and holidays.

Pricing that stays put. No promotional rate that doubles in year two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Greenlight offer business internet without a contract? Yes. All Greenlight business plans are month to month with no contracts, no data caps, and no termination fees. You can change your speed tier at any time as your business grows or slows.

What internet speeds does Greenlight offer businesses? Greenlight offers four business tiers: Basic (up to 500 Mbps), Fast (up to 1 Gig), Faster (up to 2 Gig), and Fastest (up to 8 Gig). All tiers deliver symmetrical upload and download speeds.

Is there a charge if my installation is delayed? No. Customers are not charged until service is connected and working. If construction in your district takes longer than estimated, you do not pay for service you do not have.

Can Greenlight support my POS system and VoIP phones? Yes. Even the Basic 500 Mbps tier is built to support POS transactions, VoIP, file downloads, and video conferencing. Higher tiers add capacity for cloud computing, data backups, and server hosting.
