Greenlight Networks Partners with Endwell Fire Department for Network Hub; Gigabit Fiber Network Available to 20,000 homes by year-end 2023

UNION, N.Y. (Dec 1, 2022) – Greenlight Networks (“Greenlight”), the leading fiber-to-the-home provider in New York State, announced today that it is expanding its sought-after fiber network to the Town of Union, with gigabit Internet services available to 20,000 homes by year-end 2023. The company plans to invest more than $25 million in the infrastructure of the network in the town, creating jobs and work for local contractors in the process.

Greenlight’s network is currently available to nearly 2,000 homes in the Town of Union and it expects to complete construction in 14 additional neighborhoods by the third quarter of 2023, which will bring service to 5,000 more households throughout Union, including the villages of Endicott and Johnson City, as well as the hamlet of Endwell. Another 13,000 households will be connected by year-end 2023.

“The Town of Union has been a great partner in this process, and more and more residents have been placing orders for high-speed Internet service as access becomes more critical to everyday life,” said Mark Murphy, President, and CEO of Greenlight. “By the end of 2023, more than 20,000 homes in Union will have access to our fiber services. As someone who grew up in Binghamton, I know how important it will be for local residents to have high-speed, affordable, and reliable connectivity. Greenlight is thrilled to provide that to the Town of Union and its neighbors with our 100 percent fiber optic Internet infrastructure. Infrastructure that will support the community’s growth and economic development for years to come.”

Greenlight is partnering with the Endwell Fire Department to host its network equipment in exchange for complimentary high-speed fiber broadband service at the fire department. Construction of Greenlight’s network will begin in the neighborhoods surrounding the fire hall. Residents in these areas are now able to place pre-orders.

“The expansion of Greenlight Networks into the Town of Union is essential. It will provide thousands of our citizens with a new high-performing, competitive yet affordable alternative to Internet services. And that kind of connectivity has become essential in today’s fast-moving world,” said Richard Materese, Union Town Supervisor. “The advantages to high-speed Internet are endless – being able to browse online, stream video, and connect multiple devices seamlessly is really a game-changer. Competition should bring improvements to services for all residents. This is a major infrastructure investment that will benefit so many families, and give them the connection they need to live their lives—and for some, grow their businesses.”

Residents in the town of Union will be seeing Greenlight Networks trucks, as well as those of its sub-contractors, as construction activities expand throughout the community. Residents will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days prior to starting. Additional messaging, such as yard signs, will also be provided to notify residents of when construction is beginning in their neighborhood.

Greenlight’s fiber-optic network will deliver data speeds as high as 2 Gbps upload and download, with a base speed of 500 Mbps upload and download for $50 a month. Greenlight’s Internet service is five times faster and 25 percent less expensive than the incumbent cable provider, with no contracts, taxes, or hidden fees. Fiber internet provides the best possible online experience for gaming or streaming high-quality video and supports simultaneous high-speed connections across multiple devices.

Once construction is completed, customers that pre-ordered services will be notified to schedule in-home installation by a Greenlight Networks’ fiber technician.
