Fiber Internet Expansion by Greenlight Networks Brings High-Speed Connectivity and Jobs to Local Residents

BINGHAMTON, NY (JULY 19, 2023) – Greenlight Networks, the leading fiber-to-the-home provider in New York State, is pleased to announce a significant expansion of its fiber Internet services throughout Broome County, including further network expansions within 22 neighborhoods in the City of Binghamton, in addition to Endicott, Endwell, Johnson City, Owego, Union, and Vestal.

Greenlight Networks has already brought high-speed fiber Internet access to more than 12,000 local households since entering the market in 2021. An additional 7,000 households will gain access to the network by the end of 2023, which will bring the total number of homes with fiber Internet connectivity to more than 19,000.

“Expanding access to our network within Binghamton and some of the surrounding towns of Broome County, remains a top priority for Greenlight. We’ve been very fortunate that the community, our local partners, and the local officials have provided a warm welcome,” said Mark Murphy, CEO of Greenlight Networks. “We’re investing in the infrastructure and we’re investing in the people of the Southern Tier. We know firsthand that providing a more affordable—and more reliable—Internet option will bring a positive impact on the region.”

“Continuing to improve access to high-speed internet is an ongoing priority for Broome County,” said Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. “Greenlight Networks’ entry and expansion into our community is an important part of our work to make sure every resident is connected. This build out helps economy and ensures that more of our residents have reliable connection for work, school, and leisure.”

In addition to increasing connectivity, the construction activities associated with the fiber network buildout continues to fuel job creation in the area. Greenlight Networks is working with local contractors and an internal local construction team to build the network infrastructure and carry out the residential installations. Greenlight is also working with the local utility companies to expedite access to the utility poles and accelerate construction.

“The expansion of Greenlight Networks throughout Broome County and the Southern Tier is sure to facilitate further economic growth for our communities. Access to strong and reliable broadband networks is key for our residents and businesses alike to connect not only with one another, but with the world at large. As the Leadership Alliance continues to support both business and talent attraction & retention, we applaud Greenlight Networks for doing their part,” said Stacey Duncan, CEO of the Leadership Alliance between the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce and The Agency.

“We all know how crucial it is for the Southern Tier to increase access to reliable, high-speed Internet. It goes without saying that Southern Tier 8 is thrilled to see that Greenlight shares this same view and is taking the time to invest and expand.” said Jen Gregory, Executive Director, Southern Tier 8 Regional Board. “Greenlight understands the current limitations of our community and is building a robust network infrastructure that can better support our needs for data, bandwidth, and reliability. This expansion will help our neighborhoods grow and thrive.”

To celebrate the network expansion news, Greenlight will be hosting a community pop-up event on Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Highland Park, Pavilion #2. A technician will be on hand to talk about the installation process and answer any questions related to Greenlight’s fiber services, including providing information on a new managed Wi-Fi product available to Binghamton residents. The HR team will also be in attendance to discuss career opportunities. No registration is required to attend. Community members will have a chance to win raffle prizes, sample treats and enjoy live music.

To keep residents informed about the ongoing construction activities, Greenlight Networks will be proactively communicating with residents who have checked for availability on its website. Additionally, residents can expect to receive additional communication, such as yard signs and door tags, to notify them when construction is about to commence in their area.
