$50 Million Investment to Expand Broadband Internet to 50K Homes across the Southern Tier by 2023

VESTAL, N.Y., May 11, 2022 – Greenlight Networks, New York State’s fastest Internet provider, today celebrated the grand opening of its new Southern Tier location in the town of Vestal in Broome County. The modern 5,000 square foot space located on Vestal Road overlooks Binghamton University. Among the work groups located at the new office, are Construction, Engineering and Field Technicians who work to expand and install customers on the Greenlight Networks’ high-speed fiber optic Internet service.

In building out its network, Greenlight expects to invest approximately $50 million over the next two years in infrastructure for the area, creating jobs and work for local contractors in the process. In June of 2021, Greenlight Networks closed on the acquisition of Binghamton-based Internet solution provider Plexicomm. Since then, it has grown its local employees from 13 to 19 plus 6 members of the Greenlight LeChase construction joint venture. Greenlight plans to have 30 employees in Broome County by 2023 and put hundreds of local contractors to work upgrading utility infrastructure and expanding its fiber network.

Greenlight also announced today that its high-speed Internet service is expected to be available to more than 50,000 homes in the Southern Tier Region by year-end 2023. Construction of Greenlight’s network is well underway in the Binghamton West Side neighborhood in addition to the Endwell Sunrise and Endwell Catalina neighborhoods. Residents in these areas can place pre-orders for high-speed Internet service which is expected to be available in the coming months. Greenlight Networks is also accepting pre-orders for fiber Internet service in Johnson City and areas of Union including Endwell and Endicott. An interactive map which tracks neighborhoods under construction and open for pre-orders is available on Greenlight Networks website at: https://www.greenlightnetworks.com/binghamton-ny/

Mark Murphy, President and CEO of Greenlight Networks, said, “As a Binghamton native and the founder of Greenlight, the opening of our new office serving the Southern Tier is a proud day for me and my family. We are excited to provide residents with a fiber optic internet network that will offer consumers a choice and the fastest Internet connection in the state with symmetrical download and upload speeds. Over the coming months and years, we will continue to expand our coverage areas and investment in this community through both infrastructure and employment opportunities.”

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said, “We are excited to have Greenlight Networks here in Broome County. Our economy and quality of life depend on all of our residents having access to high-speed internet. Broome County continues to work on improving and expanding service to every corner of our county and Greenlight Networks plays an important role in these efforts.”

Stacey Duncan, CEO, Leadership Alliance, said, “Access to reliable high-speed internet is critical for both our residents and our businesses alike to remain at the top of their game. Communities with access to fiber optic internet serve as more competitive options for site selection and economic development, and as we also continue to see a shift towards more employees working from home, we have to ensure that we have internet options such as Greenlight available to facilitate the financial well-being and growth of our community.”
