Greenlight Networks further expands network availability within the Capitol Region, Saratoga

ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2022) – Greenlight Networks (“Greenlight”), the leading fiber-to-the-home provider in New York State, announced today that it is bringing its sought-after fiber network to the Town of Malta, with services available beginning Spring 2023. The company is investing more than $6.5 million in the infrastructure of the network for the town, creating jobs and work for local contractors in the process.

Greenlight initially expects to complete construction in six neighborhoods by the third quarter of 2023, which will bring service to more than 6,500 households throughout Malta.

“From the very start of our discussions, the Town Supervisor and local community leaders have been so welcoming and receptive about Greenlight coming to Malta. It’s encouraging to see customers throughout the Capitol-Saratoga region already placing pre-orders for high-speed Internet service,” said Mark Murphy, President and CEO of Greenlight. “By the end of 2023, more than 75% of the homes in Malta will have access to our fiber services. This will be a real game-changer for local residents who rely on high-speed Internet and reliable connectivity.”

Greenlight is partnering with the Town of Malta to host its network equipment in exchange for complimentary high-speed fiber broadband service at the town hall building. Construction of Greenlight’s network will begin in the neighborhoods surrounding the town hall. Residents in these areas are now able to place pre-orders.

Mark Hammond, Malta Town Supervisor, is excited about the expansion plans and the opportunity it brings to Malta residents. “With more and more people relying upon fast, dependable internet, the addition of a fiber-optic provider in our town will be a welcomed option for residents,” said Hammond. “It’s my hope that the competition Greenlight represents will result in affordable internet costs, particularly at a time when many folks are already struggling financially!”

With a growing Upstate New York footprint, Greenlight first expanded into the Capitol Region in November 2021 with its Clifton Park announcement. The company has since set its sights on additional network expansions based on the high demand from local residents. Greenlight engaged with the Town of Malta in early 2022 and has since received the necessary approvals and required agreements to begin construction. The company is currently working closely with local utility companies on gaining access to utility poles.

“One of our biggest challenges is keeping pace with the demand for our services. Our network construction is a lengthy and arduous process and will happen in phases but represents a significant investment in the community each step of the way,” added Murphy. “We appreciate the patience of Malta residents and the continued support from Town officials. We’re looking forward to working together to bring the fastest Internet in New York State to the Town of Malta.”

Greenlight’s fiber-optic network will deliver data speeds as high as 2 Gbps upload and download, with a base speed of 500 Mbps upload and download for $50 a month. Greenlight’s Internet service is five times faster and 25 percent less expensive than the incumbent cable provider, with no contracts, taxes, or hidden fees. Fiber internet provides the best possible online experience for gaming or streaming high-quality video and supports simultaneous high-speed connections across multiple devices.

In addition to Clifton Park and Malta, Greenlight is also serving customers in neighborhoods throughout the Rochester, Buffalo, and Binghamton areas. Since launching in 2011, Greenlight has created nearly 200 jobs and employed hundreds of local contractors across New York State to help construct the fiber-optic network. In fact, Greenlight Networks has already started hiring to support the Malta project with many positions currently available on its website.

With the new investment from Oak Hill Capital, Greenlight plans to further accelerate its fiber buildouts to expand within its existing service areas and into new communities. Greenlight’s model embraces neighbors doing outreach, raising awareness, and helping with advance signups of interest.

A map of all current Greenlight service locations in Malta, including areas currently under construction and planned expansion areas, can be found on GreenlightNetworks.com. Once construction is completed, customers that pre-ordered services will be notified to schedule in-home installation by a Greenlight Networks’ fiber technician.
