9 TIPS TO GET YOUR HOME READY FOR FALL

Fall is near and almost here! The time for Pumpkin Spice, everything, apple cider donuts, and corn mazes is (almost) upon us. While fall activities are full of excitement, prepping for the cooler months may not be. The good news is even though you may not be able to control the weather outside, you can control just how ready you and your home are. Here are 9 quick tips for preparing your home for fall and some may even save you money while you are at it!

 Tip 1: Clean Your Gutters

With Fall coming up, it is likely that leaves and other debris may get clogged or stuck in your gutters. Make sure to clean them out as a clog can eventually result in the downspout overflowing, freezing, or even decomposition.

Tip 2: Check Windows and Doors for Drafts

Don’t forget to go around to each window and door in your house and make sure there are no drafts. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this simple task can save you up to 20% on your heating bills during the winter.

Tip 3: Buy a Programmable Thermostat

Consider investing in a programmable thermostat. Though some can be expensive, in the long run, you will end up saving more than you think! Programmable thermostats can be managed on your phone and from wherever you are. You will have the flexibility to manage the temperature in your home no matter the time of day or where you are to ensure your house is nice and cozy. You can also get one that programs the temperature of every room individually. This is a great way to save on heating bills during the fall and winter.

 Tip 4: Reverse your Fan

In the summer you want your fan running counterclockwise so that cool air is pushed down on you. In the winter you want it to go clockwise to create an updraft that sends warm air down. This is a great tip for keeping warm in those rooms with a fan.

Tip 5: Consider buying an Air Purifier

During the colder months, it is less likely that you will open any windows, but more likely that people in the home will catch a cold or the flu. This means that when you need good ventilation the most, you probably aren’t getting it. Think about getting an Air Purifier to aid in combatting that issue.

Tip 6: Store your Outdoor Furniture

You know how that outdoor table you just bought from your local home improvement store says it’s winter-proof? Maybe this isn’t the winter to put it to the test. If you are running low on funds, or just interested in playing it safe, store all of your outdoor furniture! It will keep them safe from Upstate New York’s notorious winter and ready to bust out when Springtime is back!

Tip 7: Drain Faucets

Don’t forget to turn off your outdoor valves and empty out any remaining water from hoses. If this isn’t done it can lead to freezing which will damage your hose and could even lead to a pipe bursting, which is the last thing you want to deal with this fall.

Tip 8: Check your Furnace

Make sure it is working. That is it, that is the task. Because there is nothing, and we mean nothing, worse than entering a 20-degree day after a 70-degree day and finding out that your furnace does not work. Especially when others may be experiencing the same issue, and the probability of your repair person getting to it in time could be slim.

 Tip 9: Enjoy your Fall!

Don’t forget to have fun and make the most of the season. Grab a pumpkin spice Latte, run a turkey trot, or even stream the big game! … Speaking of streaming the big game, nothing is worse than when you miss the game-winning play due to slow-speed internet. Consider switching to Greenlight today. Our internet is fast and reliable, and you won’t miss a second of one of your team’s game-winning touchdowns.

While streaming is a huge deal, Greenlight’s fiber optic plans have plenty of more uses. Our internet service runs at an average speed of one Gigabyte per second making us the best for downloading and gaming needs as well! With kids being back in school, those remote workdays, and the NFL season being upon us, now is the perfect time to switch to Greenlight. Your home will be running on internet that is up to 40% faster than the average home connection and compatible with multiple devices at a time. It is a win-win for everybody!

Follow these tips and you (and your home) will be the go-to host of the season! Happy Fall!
