The Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal Gets Greenlight for 100X Faster Internet for its Residents and Small Businesses

Rochester-February 28, 2017– Greenlight Networks, an ultra-high-speed, broadband service provider, offering residential and small business customers Internet speeds up to a Gigabit per second, announced today that it completed construction of its 1st Greenlight District in the Village of Fairport, NY.

“We’re thrilled to expand our fiber optic network to Fairport,” said Mark Murphy, president of Greenlight Networks. “We can’t wait to see how businesses and residents of ‘The Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal’ change the way they work and play with this much bandwidth!”

Greenlight Networks fiber optic network offers internet speeds up to 100 times faster than the average American household is receiving. According to The Wall Street Journal, the addition of a fiber connection to a home increases the home’s value approximately 3%. A Fiber to the Home Council study found that the property value of a multi-dwelling unit building also increases about 3% with a fiber connection. In addition, the study found that a reliable broadband connection was listed as the most important amenity by residents, when choosing an apartment or condo.

To build the network, Greenlight entered into an agreement with Fairport Electric to gain access to its utility pole infrastructure. “Access to reliable, high speed broadband is extremely important to our customers, and we’re pleased to support more broadband competition for businesses and households here in Fairport,” said Bryan White, Village Manager and General Manager of Electric Operations.

Greenlight expects expansion in Fairport and the surrounding communities to accelerate in 2017. The company now serves customers in Brighton, East Rochester, Fairport, Henrietta, Irondequoit, Penfield, Pittsford, Rochester, Webster, and West Henrietta.
